"I can't tell you a centre back that's been successful at that size"
"I can't tell you a centre back that's been successful at that size" - (Graeme Souness when referring to Man Utd's 5ft 9ins Lisandro Martinez).

How about -

Fabio Cannavaro (5"9)
Franco Baresi (5"9)

I think our very own Bobby Moore was only 5"10.

And Souness gets paid for those views. Embarrassing!

Anymore good midget centre backs?

Think Souness forgot Emlyn Hughes who I don't remember as a giant. Steve Nicol as well played centre half for Liverpool at times and wasn't tall.

rios, I always had him down as a defensive midfielder rather than centre back, but they did have Graham Roberts 5'10" & Gary Mabutt also 5'10" as their centre halves.....so they were quite a small team at times....

To be fair to Souness he did say 'to play in Englands top flight'

Perryman was the spurs equivalent of Potts, very decent if unspectacular players who pretty much stayed at one club all their career (apart from the last few years for Perryman) - he was 5'9

Did Souness not pair up Dicks with Ruddock at Centre back for a while?

Billy Wright Was only 5'8" and was rarely beaten in the air due to his timing. He was England captain, got 105 caps and was married to one of the Beverly sisters.

It also has to be noted that Souness was the only Liverpool manager that tried to turn them into the Wimbledon Crazy Gang.......he has form for being a non football expert....

Wasnt it against Germany in the1990 World cup semi that the ball flicked off Paul Parkers head and over Shilton to give them the lead?
Shilton wasn't the biggest keeper in the world either but thats for another thread.

It's no good listening to anything Souness says, it's also no good looking back in time.

In the modern game, it's all about how your team set up and play. He's looking good for them, as they are trying to play football. He'd be absolutely fucking useless for us, in our backs to the wall approach that we spend most (MOST) of the time doing.

Please no one be thick enough to mention the last 20 minutes of the game. We're talking overall.

I think Souness let’s his new teeth do the talking for him sometimes.

He’s genuinely run out of things to say.
